The mashup

Alcohol will once again become the real thing for Coca-Cola Amatil (CCA) when it is cleared to re-enter the local beer market from next year. The answer lies in what CCA will be able to do — and how quickly. “They are going to have to think about whether they can continue with the motto ‘Done is better than perfect,’ ” said Susan Etlinger, an industry analyst at the Altimeter Group.  Under the terms of the sale of its previous beer business to SABMiller, CCA was restrained from selling, distributing or manufacturing beer in Australia until the end of 2013. The game was delayed so its players can get more time to prepare for it. Analysts, investors and company executives can rattle off any number of challenges facing the company.  Experts point out that the company’s revenue growth showed signs of slowing in the first quarter of 2012. CCA 's stock fell 76 cents, or 5.7 percent, to $12.65 in afternoon trading Wednesday after the announcement was made. CCA’s response to this challenge so far has been to aggressively acquire companies focused on other ways to generate revenue. But in spite of all those challenges, CCA managed to brew and distribute beer in other markets, although it has delayed the release of "BioShock Infinite," a plan of starting distribution of all brands from mid-2012.  ‘‘I think in time, and I don’t know how long that period will be, we will sell more beverages in Indonesia than we will in Australia.’’ Mr Davis said.
